Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • ½ cup Unsalted butter (softened)
  • ¾ cup Brown sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • ½ cup Milk (or apple juice)
  • 2 cups Apples (peeled, cored, diced – e.g., Granny Smith)
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice (to toss apples)

Equipment

  • 9-inch round cake pan or springform pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk/spatula

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the pan and line with parchment paper.
  2. Toss diced apples with lemon juice; set aside.
  3. Whisk flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
  4. Cream butter + brown sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture. Fold in apples.
  6. Pour batter into the pan. Sprinkle cinnamon-sugar topping (if using).
  7. Bake 45–50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for 1 month.
  • Substitutes: Use whole wheat flour (50/50) or replace butter with coconut oil.
  • Add-ins: Walnuts, raisins, or a caramel drizzle enhance flavor!
