Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Pour in the beer and stir gently with a spatula until just combined (do not overmix; lumps are okay).
Spoon the thick batter into the prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top lightly.
Drizzle melted butter evenly over the top of the batter.
Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and serve warm with butter or honey.
