Ingredients
  

  • 360g 3 cups All-purpose flour (or bread flour)
  • 7g 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 9g 1 ½ tsp Salt
  • 12g 1 tbsp Sugar (or honey)
  • 300ml 1 ¼ cups Warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 15ml 1 tbsp Olive oil (optional)

  • Measuring cups/spoons
  • Wooden spoon or dough whisk
  • Baking sheet or loaf pan
  • Kitchen towel

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, mix warm watersugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 mins until frothy.
  2. Add floursalt, and olive oil (if using) to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 mins until smooth.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1–2 hours (until doubled).
  5. Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place on a baking sheet or in a loaf pan.
  6. Cover and let rise for 30–45 mins.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake for 25–30 mins until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  9. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • For crustier bread: Place a pan of water in the oven while baking.
  • Variations: Add herbs, garlic, or seeds for extra flavor.
  • Storage: Keep in an airtight bag for up to 3 days or freeze for longer.
