In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 mins until frothy.
Add salt, oil, and flour (1 cup at a time) to the yeast mixture.
Knead by hand (10 mins) or with a stand mixer (5 mins) until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1–2 hours (or until doubled).
Punch down dough, shape into a log, and place in a greased loaf pan.
Cover and let rise again for 30–45 mins (until it domes above the pan).
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake for 25–30 mins until golden brown.
Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
