Ingredients
  

  • 1 packet (7g) 2 ¼ tsp Active dry yeast
  • 300ml 1 ¼ cups Warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 25g 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 5g 1 tsp Salt
  • 30ml 2 tbsp Vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 440g 3 ½ cups All-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)

  • Stand mixer (optional, for kneading)
  • Loaf pan (9x5 inches)
  • Kitchen towel

Method
 

  1. In a bowl, mix warm watersugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 mins until frothy.
  2. Add saltoil, and flour (1 cup at a time) to the yeast mixture.
  3. Knead by hand (10 mins) or with a stand mixer (5 mins) until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1–2 hours (or until doubled).
  5. Punch down dough, shape into a log, and place in a greased loaf pan.
  6. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 mins (until it domes above the pan).
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake for 25–30 mins until golden brown.
  9. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Yeast Check: If the yeast doesn’t bubble, it may be expired—replace it.
  • Variations: Add seeds, herbs, or whole wheat flour for flavor.
  • Storage: Keep in an airtight bag for 3 days or freeze for 1 month.
