Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup Granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup Packed brown sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup Chopped nuts (optional)

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper or silicone mats
  • Measuring cups/spoons
  • Wire cooling rack

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter & sugars: In a large bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (~3 mins).
  4. Add wet ingredients: Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  5. Combine: Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).
  7. Scoop dough: Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 9–11 minutes until edges are golden but centers are still soft.
  9. Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For crispier cookies, bake 1–2 minutes longer.
  • Dough can be chilled for 30 mins to reduce spreading.
  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze unbaked dough balls.
