Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and lightly dust with flour or line with parchment paper.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (~3 mins).
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in vanilla extract.
Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined (do not overmix).
Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Once completely cooled, frost or serve as desired.
