Margherita Pizza Recipe

A classic Margherita Pizza with a crispy crust, tangy tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and aromatic basil. Simple, delicious, and perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb (450g) Pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • ½ cup (120ml) San Marzano tomatoes (crushed)
  • 7 oz (200g) Fresh mozzarella cheese (sliced)
  • 10-12 leaves Fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove Garlic (minced)
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Black pepper
  • ½ tsp Dried oregano (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese (grated, optional)

Equipment

  • Pizza stone or baking sheet
  • Rolling pin (optional)
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups/spoons

Method
 

  1. If using homemade dough, let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
  3. In a bowl, mix crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and oregano.
  4. Roll or stretch the dough into a 12-inch (30cm) circle on a floured surface.
  5. Transfer to parchment paper (for easy handling).
  6. Spread tomato sauce evenly over the dough.
  7. Arrange mozzarella slices on top.
  8. Drizzle with olive oil.
  9. Slide the pizza (with parchment) onto the preheated stone/sheet.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes until crust is golden and cheese melts.
  11. Remove from oven, top with fresh basil leaves.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, pre-bake the dough for 3 minutes before adding toppings.
  • Use buffalo mozzarella for a richer flavor.
  • If using a baking sheet, lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
