Equipment

  • Large saucepan or pot
  • wooden spoon
  • Blender or immersion blender (optional, for smoother sauce)

Method

  1. Sauté Garlic: Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant (do not let it burn).
  2. Add Tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Stir well to combine.
  3. Season: Add basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir and bring to a gentle simmer.
  4. Simmer: Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  5. Blend (Optional): For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender or transfer to a blender and pulse briefly.
  6. Finish: Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Stir in fresh basil before serving.

Notes

  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for 3 months.
  • Variations: Add onions, carrots, or red wine for deeper flavor.
  • Fresh Herbs: If available, use 2 tbsp fresh basil & oregano instead of dried.
