Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch cake pan and line with parchment paper.
In a bowl, sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
Beat butter and sugar until fluffy (2–3 mins). Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
Alternate adding the dry mix and milk to the butter mixture (start/end with dry mix).
Pour batter into the pan. Bake 25–30 mins or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool in the pan for 10 mins, then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar or frost as desired.
