Ingredients

  • 120ml ½ cup Ketchup
  • 60ml ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 30ml 2 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 30g 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 15ml 1 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 15g 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 5g 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 5g 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 2.5g ½ tsp Smoked paprika
  • 1g ¼ tsp Black pepper
  • 1g ¼ tsp Cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 30ml 2 tbsp Water (adjust for consistency)

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups/spoons
  • Glass jar or bottle (for storage)

Method

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, whisk together ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and cayenne (if using).
  2. Simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Thin if Needed: Add water 1 tbsp at a time if the sauce is too thick. Simmer for 10-12 minutes until flavors meld.
  4. Cool & Store: Remove from heat and let cool. Transfer to an airtight jar or bottle. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • For a Smokier Flavor: Add ½ tsp liquid smoke.
  • Sweeter Version: Increase brown sugar to 3 tbsp.
  • Use: Perfect for grilled steak, burgers, or as a dipping sauce for fries.
  • Storage: Flavors intensify after 1 day in the fridge.
