Ingredients

  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Sweet pickle relish (or dill relish)
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tbsp Finely minced onion (or shallot)
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (or yellow mustard)
  • ½ tsp Sugar (optional)
  • Pinch Salt & black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Airtight container (for storage)

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, add mayonnaise, relish, lemon juice, minced onion, mustard, sugar (if using), salt, and pepper.
  2. Stir until fully combined and smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning (more lemon for tanginess, sugar for sweetness, or salt/pepper as needed).
  3. Fold in chopped parsley for freshness.
  4. For best flavor, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  5. Use with fried fish, shrimp, crab cakes, or sandwiches.
  6. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • For a chunkier texture, add extra relish or finely chopped pickles.
  • Dairy-free? Use vegan mayonnaise.
  • No relish? Substitute with finely chopped pickles + ½ tsp vinegar.
  • Best paired with: Fish & chips, crispy shrimp, or as a burger spread.
