  • 2 ¼ tsp  (7g) Active dry yeast
  • 3 cups  (360g) All-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp (9g) Salt
  •  (30g) 2 tbsp Unsalted butter (melted)
  • ¼ cup  (60ml) Milk (or water)

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Stand mixer (optional, with dough hook)
  • Measuring cups/spoons
  • Loaf pan (9x5 inches)
  • Kitchen towel
  • oven

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water (110°F/45°C), sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 mins until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and milk. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead by hand (10 mins) or with a stand mixer (5 mins) until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled.
  5. Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan. Cover and rise for 30–45 mins.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25–30 mins until golden brown and hollow when tapped.
  7. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Yeast Check: Ensure water isn’t too hot (over 130°F can kill yeast).
  • Soft Crust: Brush with butter after baking for a softer crust.
  • Storage: Keep in an airtight bag for up to 3 days or freeze for 1 month.
