Whole Wheat Pizza Dough Recipe

A healthy and delicious homemade whole wheat pizza dough that’s easy to make, slightly nutty in flavor, and perfect for a crispy yet chewy crust.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 1 cups All-purpose flour (or bread flour)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Sugar (or honey)
  • 2.25 tsp Active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 cups Warm water (110°F/45°C)

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups/spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Plastic wrap or kitchen towel
  • Rolling pin (optional)
  • Baking sheet or pizza stone

Method
 

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm watersugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together whole wheat flourall-purpose flour, and salt.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Turn onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
  6. Punch down dough, divide into two balls, and roll out on a floured surface.
  7. Add toppings and bake at 475°F (245°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden.

Notes

  • For a softer crust, replace ½ cup whole wheat flour with all-purpose flour.
  • Let dough rest for 10 minutes after rolling for easier stretching.
  • Freeze unused dough for up to 1 month (thaw before using).
